Ben ik weer .... Back again

Ik ben niet weg geweest hoor. Alleen maar weinig tijd gehad om achter de computer te zitten. Ik ben bezig geweest met van alles en nog wat.

No, I have not been away. I just had no time to sit at the computer. I've been working on anything and everything.

Hieronder een overzicht van de show and tell bij de Lekprikkers.

De vorige keer heeft een deel van de Lekprikkers een kindergiletje voor een klein bedrag gekocht met de bedoeling om deze 'op te leuken'. De versierde giletjes krijgen een goede bestemming en de opbrengst gaat naar een project in Congo Fololo voor Congo.
Deze heb ik gemaakt.

At the previous meeting of the Lekprikkers, some members bought a childrens' waistcoat for a small amount with the aim 'to jazz' them up. The decorated waistcoats get a good destination and the proceeds go to a project in Congo Fololo for Congo.  I made this one.

Regina gaf de mozaïek workshop. Er werd flink doorgewerkt, misschien zijn er de volgende keer al quiltjes af. Ik moet eerlijk bekennen dat ik niet heb meegedaan. Ik had gewoon geen tijd om het een en ander voor te bereiden. Het ziet er wel heel leuk uit, dus wie weet maak ik er ooit een.

Regina gave the mosaic workshop.  Everyone did their best so maybe the next time some quilts will be ready. I must admit that I have not participated. I just did not have time to prepare for the workshop. It looks very nice, so maybe I will make one later.

Bij de bijeenkomst van de Quiltbengels werd het volgende geshowd. Bij de Quiltbengels zijn we, indien voltallig,  maar met 5 vrouwen dus de hoeveelheid quilts en ander werk is minder groot dan bij de Lekprikkers (20 vrouwen). Maar het is zeker net zo mooi. Vooral het Merry Christmasborduurwerk en de Scandivian Christmasquilt zijn prachtig.

At the meeting of the Quiltbengels, the following was shown.  At the Quiltbengels we are, if complete, only with 5 woman. So the number of quilts and other work is less than with the Lekprikkers (20 woman). But it certainly is just as beautiful. Especially the Merry Christmas Embroidery and the Scandivian Christmas Quilt are wonderful.

Ook ben ik een dag met DD2 naar een open dag van de Hogeschool van Amsterdam geweest. En DH is met haar mee geweest naar een informatie-avond voor buitenlandse scholen. Daar is ze heel enthousiast over. Australië of Nepal lijkt haar wel wat. Als je dan toch naar het buitenland gaat, dan maar gelijk zo ver mogelijk toch? Zaterdag gaat ze nog naar een open dag in Utrecht, misschien (hopelijk) vindt ze dat nog wel veel leuker.
Oh jee, ik hoor net dat ze ook gaat kijken bij een van de organisaties die de High Schooljaren in het buitenland organiseren. Gelukkig duurt het nog een half jaar voordat ze examen doet, dan kan ik vast aan het idee wennen....

With DD2 I also visited an informative meeting of the Academy of Amsterdam. And DH was with her to an information evening for foreign schools. She was very enthousiastic about it. Australia or Nepal, that sounds like a good idea to her. If you must go abroad, then it has to be as far as possible right? Next Saturday she will visit an informative meeting of another school in Utrecht, maybe (hopefully) she likes it there too. 
Oh dear, I just heard that she is also going to a meeting of one of the organizations that organize the High School years abroad. Thank goodness, it takes another 6 months before doing exams, so I can get used to the idea...

En ik heb een baret gebreid. Past mooi bij mijn donkerbruine winterjas. De voorspelde kou en sneeuw kan komen hoor!
De stekenverhouding klopte niet helemaal, dus de baret is iets te groot. Wat zal ik doen, heet wassen of elastiek door de band rijgen?

And I have knitted a beret. Fits nicely with my dark brown winter coat. The predicted cold weather and snow can come now! The wool I used, did not quite fit the pattern so the beret is slightly too big. What shall I do, hot wash or threading elastic through the band?

Afgelopen weekend ben ik bij Els naar een viltworkshop geweest. Dit was heeeel erg leuk. Omdat ik weinig of geen ervaring met vilten had, vond ik het heel spannend. Het is allemaal goed afgelopen...volgend blogbericht meer hierover!

Last weekend I joined Els at a workshop felting.  This was really really fun. Because I had little or no experience with it, I found it very exciting. It all ended well... more on this in my next blog post!

Regiodag

onze cadeaus, our presents

Inmiddels hebben we al een paar verjaardagen gevierd, waaronder ook die van mijzelf. Mijn profiel heb ik al aangepast dus jullie kunnen zien hoe oud jong ik ben geworden. Komend weekend vieren we de verjaardag van DD1 en dan hebben we alle verjaardagen hier er weer voor een jaar op zitten.

We have already celebrated a few birthdays, including my own. I have changed my profile, so you can see how old young I have become am. Next weekend we celebrate the birthday of DD1 and then we have celebrated all birthdays here.

Vorige week ben ik naar de Regiodag van het Quiltersgilde geweest. Het was heel gezellig. Er was een prijsvraag waarbij we de juiste naam quiltblokken moesten plaatsen. Hierbij won ik een pakketje flannels. Helaas niet echt mijn smaak, maar DD2 vond ze best leuk. Ik zal ze dus nog maar even bij de voorraad lapjes bewaren.

Last week I went to the regional yearly meeting of the Quiltersguild. It was a very pleasant day. There was a contest where we had to guess the correct name of quilt blocks. I won a packet of  flannel FQ. Not really my taste, but DD2 liked them, so I will keep them in stock for a while.

Er werden stofpakketjes met een blok en 'reisbeschrijving' uitgedeeld waarmee we die dag een blok in elkaar konden naaien. Het was even doorpezen en met nog wat hulp van Yvonne, zat het blok voor we naar huis gingen, in elkaar. De blokken linksboven en rechtsonder op de fotocollage zijn van mij. Helaas leende de stofjes zich niet erg voor dit blok. In het midden zie je het voorbeeld van de winkel Quiltshop Leur, die ook deze workshop verzorgden.

We all received a packet with fabrics and a ´how to´ so we could sew a block that day. It was a hard job, but with some help from Yvonne, I managed to finish the block before the end of the meeting. In the picture, the blocks top left en bottom right are mine. Unfortunately the fabrics were not a very good choice for this block. In the middle of the picture you can see the example quilt of the shop Quilt Shop Leur, who also took care of this workshop.

Natuurlijk was er ook nog een show and tell. Helaas zijn er weer een stel foto's mislukt. Met de flits zijn de foto's overbelicht, maar zonder flits moeten de quilts effies stil gehouden worden, zodat het toestel goed scherp kan stellen. Dat lukte dus vaak niet. Maar gelukkig zijn er ook nog veel foto's wel gelukt. Als je op de foto's klikt, worden ze groter weergegeven.

And of course, there was a show and tell.  Unfortunately, there are another bunch of photos failed. With the flash the pictures are overexposed, but without a flash, the quilts may not move, so the camera can focus properly. Fortunately there were also pictures well. If you click on the photos, they appear larger.
 

Ik hoopte bij de quiltwinkel lapjes te kunnen scoren voor mijn Dresden Plates. Ik heb nl. nog wel witte stof voor de rand, maar niet genoeg gekleurde lapjes voor de appliquaties. Jammer genoeg heb ik niets in de toch ruime collectie kunnen vinden. Er waren genoeg mooie lapjes bij maar ik heb me ingehouden en heb niets gekocht. Best knap, vind je niet?
Toen we naar huis gingen, kregen we nog een patroontje en een kerstengel mee. Een foto hiervan is te zien op het weblog van Annelies. Het was een geslaagde dag.

I hoped to be able to score some fabrics for my Dresden Plates at the quilt shop. I do have white fabric for the border, but not enough colored pieces for the applique. In the large collection, I could however not find it. There were many beatiful fabrics, but I was strong, I did not buy anything. Good of me, don't you think?

When we went home, we received a litte pattern and a Christmas Angel. A picture of this can be seen on the blog of Annelies. It was a successful day.

Het kussen voor de pillow-swap van Dutch Sisters is af! Ik ben zelf erg tevreden over het eindresultaat. Ik kan 'm natuurlijk nog niet laten zien, maar kan het niet laten....hier een sneak peak. Mijn swappartner Jenny wilde graag een roze kussen. Hopelijk is het roze genoeg!

The pillow for the Dutch Sisters pillow swap is finished! I'm very pleased with the result. Obviously I can not show it now, but I can not resist.... here is a sneak peak. My swap partner Jenny wanted a pink pillow. Hopefully it is pink enough!

Dresden Plate quilt

Natuurlijk heb ik ook nog gewerkt aan de Dresden Plates. Tadaaa....

Of course I also worked on the Dresden Plates. Tadaaa ..

Volgens het patroon van 'De Sampler' is de quilt-top nu klaar. Ik denk er echter over om er nog een witte rand met een bloemenrank langs te maken. Wat denken jullie?

According to the pattern of 'The Sampler', the quilt top is ready now. However, I think I will make a border with a flowery vine. What do you think? 

Het wordt ook weer eens tijd om weer wat aan de AMGQ te gaan doen en ik heb me ook nog bij 2 Swaps (zie de buttons in de linkerkolom) aangemeld. Hier in huis zijn we ook nog eens alle 4 in 6 weken tijd jarig ook. Sommige verjaardagen worden ook nog in twee keer gevierd. De eerste verjaardag zit er inmiddels op. Binnenkort is ook Regiodag van de afdeling Rivierenland van het Quiltersgilde... hoezo drukke tijden? Maar in ieder geval wel gezellige tijden.

It is about time to return to the AMGQ and I also participate in 2 Swaps (see buttons in the left column). Here at home we have to celebrate 4 birthdays in 6 weeks, the first birthday has already been celebrated. Some birthdays will also be celebrated in two times.... Soon there is also the meeting of the Rivierenland division of the Dutch Quilters guild....what do you mean busy times? But in any case pleasant times.

Love is a Good Thing

Afgelopen week heb ik aan dit quiltje gewerkt. Het is het patroontje dat we meekregen bij de laatste Lekprikkersbijeenkomst. Woensdagmorgen was alweer de volgende bijeenkomst en ik wilde het dus persé op tijd af hebben. Tijdens het naaien zat ik de hele tijd met het deuntje van het lied 'Love is a Good Thing' van Sheryl Crow in mijn hoofd. Het quiltje heb ik dus maar 'Love is a Good Thing' genoemd.

Last week I worked on this little quilt. It is the pattern that we all received at the last Lekprikkers meeting. While I was sewing, I was humming all the time the tune of the song 'Love is a Good Thing' by Sheryl Crow. So the name of my 'love'-quilt  is 'Love is a Good Thing'.



Free motion quilten gaat me al wel gemakkelijk af, maar netjes een lijn volgen valt nog vies tegen. Hier moet ik blijkbaar nog meer op oefenen. Als je op deze foto klikt en dan nog verder vergroot, zie je bijvoorbeeld bij de krul van de L van die 'bibbers' in plaats van een mooi doorlopende lijn. Hopelijk wordt dat na meer oefenen beter. Als iemand goede tips heeft, hoor ik die graag hoor!

FreeMotion quilting is already quite easy to me, but follow a neat line is still very hard to do. Apparantly I need to practice this more. When you click on this picture and then zoom in, you see at the curl of the L some irregularities instead of a smooth continuous line. If anyone has good tips, I would like to hear them!



Hieronder weer foto-collages van de 'show and tell' tijdens de Lekprikkersbijeenkomst. Els heeft ons getrakteerd op gebak, zij en haar man waren nl. vorige week 40 jaar getrouwd.  Later kwamen er ook nog lekkere bonbons langs van Regina, die jarig was geweest. Nogmaals van harte gefeliciteerd en bedankt!

Here again photo-collages of the show and tell of the Lekprikkersmeeting. Els has treated us to cake, because she and her husband were married for 40 years last week. Later, there were also delicious chocolates from Regina, whose birthday it was. Again, congratulations and thanks! 

 

Op deze collage horen de foto's rechtsboven en linksonder bij elkaar. Het is een aardbei, waaruit een opvouwtas tevoorschijn kwam. Middenonder zijn de presentjes te zien die Alie voor ons had meegenomen uit Japan. We werden dus weer goed verwend!

On this collage the photos with the red gingham  belong together. It is a strawberry, which turned out  to be a folded bag. In the bottom center are the presents which Alie had brought for us  from Japan.

Volgende maand gaan we een mozaïkquilt maken. Hiervoor kregen we al een lijst met benodigdheden door en wat voorbeelden te zien. Het ziet er naar uit dat dat ook weer een leuke bijeenkomst gaat worden.

Next month, we are going to make a mosaic quilt. For this we alreay got a supply list and some examples. It looks as that is going to be a fun meeting again.

Dresden Plate en bedquilt

Inmiddels zijn er al een paar Dresden Plate-blokken klaar. Wat een leuk werkje! Het werken met de malletjes is zo handig en je kunt het ook gemakkelijk meenemen. Tijdens de lunchpauze op het werk, plak en naai ik lekker verder. Bij de cirkels in het midden van de plates maak ik weer dankbaar gebruik van de Perfect Circles die ik een tijdje geleden kocht. Ik heb de witte cirkeltjes overigens opgevuld met witte batting zodat het niet doorschijnt.

Meanwhile, there are a few Dresden Plate blocks ready. What a nice job! Working with the templates is so handy and you can easily carry it with you . So I  sew and glue during the lunch break at work. For the circles in the middle of the plates, I make good use of the Perfect Circles I bought a while ago. I have filled the white circles with white batting so it does not shine through .

Ook heb ik samen met DD1 met de verzameling roosjesstoffen zitten puzzelen. Het wordt namelijk tijd dat zij ook een mooie sprei krijgt, net als DD2 die al eerder een roosjesquilt kreeg. Volgens mij heb ik die quilt hier nog niet eens laten zien. Ik zal binnenkort (als madammeke haar kamer een keer netjes heeft opgeruimd) een foto maken.

Zij wil, net als DD2 destijds, alleen maar vierkanten en rechthoeken en geen samengestelde blokken. Dat werkt wel lekker snel natuurlijk. Binnenkort mag ze op haar knieën om mee te helpen met het sandwichen van de quilt. Dat vind ik, op z'n zachts gezegd, het minst leuke onderdeel van een quilt maken.

I have been playing with rose fabrics with DD1. It is time that she will also receive a nice bedspread, just as DD2 who already has got a rose quilt. I think I have not even show her quilt yet. As soon as the little lady has cleared her room, I will make a picture.

It is her wish that the quilt only has squares and rectangles. This works nice and fast ofcourse. Very soon, she may help me, on her knees, to sandwich the quilt. In my opinion, that is the least enjoyable part of quilt making.



Vorige week heb ik ook nog een beetje met het fototoestel 'gespeeld'.  De zon scheen zo mooi op de bos zonnebloemen.

Last week, I 'played' a bit with the camera. The sun shone brightly on the sunflowers bouquet.

Op dit moment schijnt het zonnetje al lekker. Ik wens jullie een mooie zonnige dag!
