Lekprikkers update

Ik weet het, ik moet niet klagen, maar wat gaan de weken toch snel voorbij. Eén bijkomend voordeel is dat onze jongste dochter Esther nu heel snel weer thuis komt na een verblijf van bijna 1 jaar in Australië! Volgende week is ze weer thuis!
I know, I should not be complaining, but the weeks pass so very fast. An additional advantage is that our youngest daughter Esther quickly returns home after spending nearly 1 year in Australia! Next week she is back home!

Maar nu eerst een kort verslag en foto's van de Lekprikkersbijeenkomst van maart. Ineke kwam voor het eerst voor de start van de Eurekaquilt. Ik heb 'm geloof ik al eens laten zien, maar dit is ons voorbeeld.
But first a brief report and photos of the Lekprikkers meeting of March. Ineke came for the start of the Eureka Quilt. I think I showed a picture earlier, but this is our example.

De quilt bestaat uit verschillende varianten log cabin blokken. Voor de eerste 3 blokken kregen we uitleg en nadere instructies mee. Het is best een hele klus. Alle blokken moeten uitgetekend worden op foundation en zoals je kunt zien, zijn het er heel wat. Maar het is wel heel leuk om te doen.
The quilt consists of various variants log cabin blocks. For the first 3 blocks, we got explanations and detailed instructions with it. It is quite a job. All blocks have to be drawn on a foundation and as you can see, there are quite a few. But it is nice to do.

Ik hoop snel ook de foto's van de bijeenkomst van april en het uitstapje in mei te hebben geordend zodat ik die ook kan laten zien. Maar vanmiddag, na wat klussen in de tuin, ga ik lekker buiten maar weer eens wat Eurekablokken tekenen.
Soon I hope to have organized the pictures of the meeting of april and the trip in May so I can show these also. But this afternoon, after some odd jobs in the garden, I go outside to draw some Eureka blocks.

't is al weer een tijd geleden... it has been quite a while

..dat ik een blogbericht plaatste. Tijd voor een update!

.. since I posted a blog. Time for an update!

Degenen die mij persoonlijk kennen, kennen mij waarschijnlijk nog met gekleurd haar. Inmiddels heb ik, in drie maanden tijd, de haarverf helemaal uit laten groeien. Bij quilt-tentoonstellingen grappen we nog wel eens onderling dat het grijsgehalte van de bezoekers weer lekker hoog is. Wel, ik hoor er nu ook helemaal bij!

Those who personally know me, know me probably with colored hair. Meanwhile, in three months time, the hair color is completely grown out. At quilting-exhibitions, we joke among ourselves, that the level of grey visitors is rather high. Well, I'm one of them now!

De afgelopen tijd had ik niet zo'n zin om in mijn vrije tijd veel achter de computer te zitten. Op mijn werk zit ik al de hele dag op het toetsenbord te rammelen en 'te muizen', thuis was ik dan (na huishoudelijke plichten te hebben gedaan) liever met mijn lapjes bezig. En zo stelde ik het bloggen iedere keer verder uit.

Lately I did not feel much to sit behind the computer in my spare time. At work I am all day rattling on my keyboard and when I was at home, after having done my housekeeping duties, I prefered to be busy with my patches. And so I postponed blogging each time.

Maar nu is de roosjesquilt voor Iris dan eindelijk klaar!

But now I finally completed the rose quilt for Iris!

Een volgend blok van de Camelot-quilt. Er is er nog één klaar, maar ik merk dat ik die nog niet op de foto heb gezet...

Een paar jaar geleden kocht ik tijdens een tentoonstelling bij 't Quiltgebeuren een pakket van een wandquiltje "'t Vrolijke Nootje". Af en toe knipte ik wat lapjes, maar daar bleef het dan ook bij. Maarrr, inmiddels is de top helemaal klaar en ligt-ie klaar om gequilt te worden. Wordt vervolgd....

At an exhibition a few years ago, I bought at 't Quiltgebeuren a kit of a little quilt. Sometimes I cut some pieces, but that was all. But now the top is finished and it's ready to be quilted. To be continued ....

O ja, een tijdje geleden bestelde ik een Amerikaans quilttijdschrift bij The Quilt House uit Winschoten. Toen bleek dat ik de 100e bestelling had geplaatst en had ik zowaar een pakket voor een vilten tas gewonnen! Ik doe nog wel eens mee met give-aways en ik win nooit wat. Nu wist ik van niets en had ik zomaar ineens dit pakket gewonnen!

Oh yeah, a while ago I ordered an American quilt magazine at The Quilt House (Winschoten NL). It turned out that I had placed the 100th order and I won a kit of a felted bag! Regularly I join in with giveaways and I never win anything. Now I didn't knew I could win, I received this beautiful packet sent home!

Eén dezer dagen zal ik de foto's van de laatste Lekprikkersbijeenkomsten doornemen en er ook een blogbericht over maken.

Lekprikkers februari

Afgelopen week was er weer een Lekprikkersbijeenkomst. Ook dit keer was er geen workshop gepland. De meesten van ons zijn toch al druk met van alles en nog wat en volgende maand gaan we gezamenlijk beginnen aan de Eureka-quilt. Na de koffie met lekkere taart was er wel weer een show and tell.

Last week we had another meeting of the Lekprikkers. And again there was no workshop planned. Most of us are busy with several projects and next month we will jointly start making the Eureka quilt. After coffee and delicious cake the show and tell started.

Ik kon het 5e Camelot blok laten zien. De lapjes die ik maandelijks toegestuurd krijg van Quilt it en Dottie zijn altijd ruim voldoende om het blok te kunnen maken. Van de restjes heb ik nu ook de hoekjes voor alle Camelot blokken geknipt.

I showed the 5th block of the Camelot quilt. The patches which I monthly receive from Quilt it and Dottie, are always more than enough to make the block. From the leftovers I have cut the corners for all the Camelot blocks now.

En van de stukjes die te klein waren voor de hoekjes............heb ik kleine vingerhoedjes gesneden.

And the pieces that were too small for the corners........I cut little tumblers of.

De restjes sneeuw verdwijnen hier zo'n beetje letterlijk 'als sneeuw voor de zon'. Ik ben benieuwd of er de komende dagen nog verse sneeuw zal gaan vallen....

At the moment the snow is disappearing like snow in summer. I wonder whether the coming days fresh snow will fall ...

Afgelopen zaterdagochtend was ik al bijtijds buiten, lopend door de verse sneeuw op weg naar haar, waar we opgehaald zouden worden door haar om naar de Quiltexpo in Vijfhuizen te gaan. Het was prachtig buiten dus heb ik onderweg alvast wat foto's gemaakt. 't Was me een partij koud! Gelukkig kon ik eerst weer even mijn vingers warmen aan een lekker bakje koffie.

Last Saturday I was outside early, walking through the fresh snow, on the way to her. It was beautiful outside, so I made some pictures en route. It was COLD. Luckily I could warm my hands on a warm cup of coffee.

Bij de Expo, waar het 's ochtends nog flink koud was, hebben we eerst de quilts van Henk van Kooten en Arnout Cosman bewonderd. Prachtig, die mannen kunnen er wat van! Wil je meer/betere/grotere foto's zien, klik dan door op de links.

Nadat we die gezien hadden, waren we toch snel afgeleid (of moet ik zeggen verleid) door de aanwezige winkeliers. Natuurlijk hebben we ook de andere exposities nog bekeken. Hieronder nog wat foto's.

Ik zie net dat de quilt van de paarse boom hieronder wel wat weg heeft van mijn bovenste foto, vind je ook niet?

After we had seen those, we were easily distracted (or should I say seduced) by the attending retailers. Of course we have also seen the other quilt-shows. Some pictures are shown below. I just see that the quilt of the purple tree looks a bit like the tree on my top picture, don't you think?

Nu lijkt het of ik alleen moderne quilts mooi vind, maar dat is echt niet zo. Quilts als deze vind ik ook helemaal te gek, en die kan ik tenminste zelf ook maken....

Maybe it seems that I only like modern quilts, but that really isn't true. I think quilts like these are also totally awesome, and at least I can make these myself!

Heb je nog wat gekocht? Ja dus! Maar ik heb me netjes ingehouden hoor. Patronen van van kleine quilts met papieren en/of perspex mallen, een tijdschrift en maar 2 fat quarters.

Ik wil nog steeds eens een mooie ajour omslagdoek breien. En toen was daar de stand van Bart en Francis, Belgen, met prachtige wol, zijde en andere garens. Een van de twee was een beste praatjesmaker, die wilde me wel garen verkopen waarmee ik poetsdoeken kon breien. Daar trapte ik mooi niet in! Hun garens gingen als bananen over de toonbank.....en smaken naar meer...

Have I bought something? Yes! But I properly restricted myself. Patterns of 2 little quilts with paper and/or perspex templates, a magazine and only 2 fq.

I still want to knit a beautiful lace shawl once. And there was the booth of Bart and Francis, Belgians, with beautiful wool, silk and more yarns. One of them was a boaster who wanted to sell me some yarn so I could knit my own cleaning cloths. Haha, he didn't trap me with that joke! Their yarns went over the counter in banana bags...and very moreish....

block 12 Aunt Millies Garden Quilt

Jeah! Het laatste blok van de Aunt Millies Garden Quilt is ook af...alleen....nu de randen nog. Voorlopig ben ik nog niet klaar met Tante Millie. Dat vind ik niet zo heel erg, want het is zooo leuk om aan te werken. Het enige nadeel is, dat ik nog zoveel meer zou willen maken, en dat schiet dan ook niet erg op. Maar deze Aunt Millie quilt gaat volgens mij wel heel mooi worden.

Jeah! I finished the last block of the Aunt Millies Garden Quilt...Now I must start with the borders. It will still take a long time before the Aunt Millie quilt will be finished completely. I don't mind, because it is sooo fun to work on. The only drawback is that I would love to make much more and I don't have much time for that. But it seems to me that this Aunt Millie quilt is going to be very beautiful.

Vorig weekend hadden we weer een running dinner. Ik heb er eerder al eens over verteld. Het was weer super! We hebben weer ontzettend lekker gegeten en sublieme wijn gedronken.

Last weekend we had a running dinner again. I told you once before about it. It was super! Again we had very good food and superb wines.

We begonnen met een glaasje witte port met daarna een paar cherry tomaatjes, gevuld met rauwe ham, rucola en dressing met daarover geraspte parmezaanse kaas. Daarna 2 puntjes hartige taart, 1 met ricotta en pesto en 1 met oa tomaat, olijf en ansjovis, daarbij truffelsaus en een paar druppels balsamicoazijn. LEKKER! Daarna op de fiets gestapt, op naar het volgende adres voor het hoofdgerecht.

We started with a glass of white port, then a few cherry tomatoes stuffed with dried ham, rucola and a dressing, and on top some grated parmesan cheese. Then 2 slices of pie: 1 with ricotta and pesto and 1 with tomato, olives and anchovy accompanied by truffle sause and a few drops of balsamic vinegar. DELICIOUS! Then we stepped on our bikes, headed for the following address for the main course.

Heel apart en heel lekker: eendeborstfilet met sinaasappel portsaus, spruitjes en puree van paarse aardappeltjes die in slagroom gaar gekookt zijn. Ik wist helemaal niet dat er paarse aardappels bestonden, laat staan dat ze in slagroom gekookt konden worden! Alsof er een engeltje.......

Very special and very, very tasty: duck breast with orange and port sauce, Brussels sprouts and mashed purple potatoes which were cooked in cream. I did not know purple potatoes existed, let alone that they could be cooked in cream! As if an angel .......(I hope you know what I mean, I've translated a Dutch expression directly into English).

Toen een klein stukje lopen naar ons huis, waar we het dessert opdienden.

Then a short walk to our house, where we served the dessert.

Dat viel gelukkig ook goed in de smaak. In plaats van een zoet dessert, hadden we gekozen voor kaas. Een kaastaartje met bleu d'auvergne met port-marmeladesaus, perentaart met honing en noten, wat stukjes kaas en een paar druiven. Daarbij hadden we een prachtige wijn Mas Amiel (vin doux naturel) die we jaaaaren geleden tijdens een vakantie in Maury, Frankrijk hebben gekocht.

Fortunately that was well appreciated too. Instead of a sweet dessert, we had chosen for cheese. A cheese tart with bleu d'Auvergne with a red port and marmelade sauce, pear tart with honey and nuts, some slices of cheese and some grapes. We chose a wonderful wine Mas Amiel (vin doux naturel) which we bought during a holiday, many, many years ago in Maury, France, .

Er is ook altijd veel om over te praten en voor je het weet, is het toch weer laat geworden. Het was weer superlekker en supergezellig.... Binnenkort moet ik helaas toch eens gaan bepalen wanneer ik begin met lijnen. Dat blijf ik maar uitstellen, vind je het vreemd?

There is always a lot to talk about and before you know, it is very late. It was delicious and very entertaining.... Soon I must decide when I start a diet to lose some weight. That I keep on postponing, very odd, don't you think?

Sneeuwwandeling 3-2-2012 Willeke en Iris

Intussen zijn we alweer een week verder, is het berekoud geworden en ligt er een pak sneeuw! Gelukkig was het zaterdag zonnig en droog en kon het geplande bezoek aan de expo Patchwork en Quiltdagen in Vijfhuizen gewoon doorgaan. Ik probeer zo snel mogelijk wat foto's te laten zien.

Meanwhile another week has passed, it became very cold and there is a lot of snow! Luckily Saturday was a sunny and dry day and the planned visit to the exhibition Patchwork en Quiltdagen could carry on. I will try to write a new blogpost as soon as possible and show you some pictures.

Zelf heb ik al mijn blokken van de Camelotquilt laten zien. Het vierde blok had ik hier nog niet laten zien.
Op de foto zie ik dat de ronde naad rechtsboven niet mooi is. Wat denken jullie, zou ik 'm losmaken en opnieuw doen?

Net voor de Kerst zijn deze kussenhoesje met de post richting Australië gestuurd. Ze zijn een cadeautje voor Esther's Australische hostmum. Hopelijk doet de postbode er dit keer minder dan 3 weken over om post te bezorgen...

Just before Christmas, these pillow covers are sent to Australia. They are a gift for Esther's Australian hostmum. Hopefully this time the mailman takes less than about 3 weeks to deliver...

Ik heb 2 patronen van de Camelot-Bom hiervoor gebruikt. Het quilten heb ik met de machine gedaan, wat wel lekker ging. Ik vind het ook wel goed gelukt, al zeg ik het zelf. Nu heb ik de gang weer te pakken en heb de roosjesquilt voor Iris maar eens onder het machien gestopt. Het is wel een megalap, helemaal in vergelijking met de kussenhoesjes. Eigenlijk had ik deze voor het einde van 2011 af willen hebben, maar dat is dus niet gelukt. Nou ja, het is in ieder geval weer een goed begin van 2012!

For these I used 2 patterns of the Camelot Bom. I did the quilting by machine and I think it went quite well. Now that I got a start in machine quilting, I continued quilting the roses quilt for Iris. Compared to the pillow covers, this is really a huge quilt. Actually I would have liked to finish the roses quilt before the end of 2011, but I did not succeed in doing that. Well, it is certainly a good start of 2012!

Wat fijn dat ik de afgelopen week wat extra vrije tijd had.
Ik heb blok 3 van de Camelot-Bom gemaakt en de rand om blok 2 gezet. De stofjes voor blok 4 verwacht ik binnenkort, dus ik ga de mallen vast maken.

How wonderful, last week I had some extra free time.
I finished block 3 of the Camelot-Bom and added the edge to block 2. The fabrics of block 4 will arrive soon, so I will already prepare the templates.

Ook heb ik weer wat aan het laatste blok van de Aunt Millie Quilt gedaan. Het is een lastige, met veel kleine blaadjes en puntjes die scherp horen te zijn. Nu ben ik met de laatste appliquaties bezig; de cirkeltjes. Ik maak ze met behulp van Karen Kay Buckley's Perfect Circles, die werken echt perfect! I also worked on the last block of the Aunt Millie's Garden Quilt. It's a difficult one, with many little leaves and a lot of points that should be sharp. Now I am working on the latest pieces, the circles. I use the Karen Kay Buckley's Perfect Circles, which really work perfect!

Kerstmis! Christmas!

Vorige week woensdag was de Kerstbijeenkomst van de Lekprikkers. De laatste twee bijeenkomsten heb ik moeten missen, daarom was ik heel blij dat ik er dit keer wel weer bij kon zijn. Janske had er voor gezorgd dat het er weer erg sfeervol uit zag.

Last Wednesday was the Christmas meeting of the Lekprikkers. I missed the last two meetings, so I was very happy to be able to join the meeting this time. Janske decorated our meeting space very nicely and christmassy cozy.

Tijdens de workshop werd een kerstornamentje gemaakt.

During the workshop we made a Christmas ornament.

Er was een kleine show en tell.

And we had a litlle show and tell.

En er werden verschillende kerstpresentjes uitgedeeld. Alles bij elkaar leek het wel een kerstpakket, zo leuk en lief!

Several Christmas presents were distributed. So cute and sweet!

Het was weer een SUPER Lekprikkersochtend dames, bedankt!

Oops, sorry

Oops, sorry. Wat is het een tijd geleden dat ik een berichtje heb geschreven. Tja, hoe kwam dat nou zo. Wel, het was gewoon een beetje druk. Oktober en november zijn altijd druk met verjaardagen. Mijn leeftijd heb ik net weer met een jaartje opgehoogd.... Ook op het werk is het aan het einde van het jaar altijd drukker dan anders. Ik was dus gewoon een beetje moe. Is allemaal niet erg, gaat wel weer over.

Oops, sorry. It has been a long time since my last blogpost. How come? Well, nothing special, I was busy. October and November are always crowded with birthdays. Also at work, at the end of the year, it is always busier than usual. I was just a little tired. It is not so bad, that will pass.

Maar ik heb niet helemaal stil gezeten hoor. Het 2e blok van de Camelot-BOM is af. De buitenrand ontbreekt nog wel. Er zijn zoveel deelnemers dat Dorry niet genoeg stof heeft voor alle deelnemers. Komt goed, komt alleen wat later.

But I've also been doing some patchwork. The second block of the Camelot-BOM is finished. The outer rim is still missing. There are so many participants that Dorry has not enough material for all participants. It will be alright, it just comes a bit later.

De patronen van alle Camelot-blokken heb ik allemaal al, de stoffen krijg ik iedere maand thuis gestuurd. Het eerste blok heb ik nog een keer gemaakt maar dan met batiks. Ik heb nog een ander blok uitgezocht en die ook van batiks gemaakt. Hiervan ga ik kussenhoesjes maken voor Sharda, de Australische hostmum van Esther. Ze zijn pas verhuisd en Sharda was deze week ook jarig. Oftewel, een goede aanleiding om wat leuks voor haar te maken.

I already received all the block patterns, each month Dorry sends us the fabrics. I made the first block one more time with batiks. Then I selected another block and made that also with batiks. Of this I will make pillow covers for Sharda, the Australian hostmum of Esther. They have recently moved to a new home and Sharda had her birthday this week. So this is a good reason to make something nice for her.

En weet je wat ik nu ga doen? Lekker alvast de kerstquilt in de kamer hangen! Eigenlijk wacht ik altijd tot Sinterklaas het land uit is, maar nu dus niet. Kan mij het schelen, ik heb zin in Kerst!!!

And what am I going to do now? I will put the Christmas quilt in the living room! Normally, I wait until Sinterklaas has left the country, but not now. The heck, I'm looking forward to Christmas!!!.

Het concert van Joe Bonamassa vorige week in Amsterdam was helemaal geweldig.
Wij waren ook nog niet eerder in theater Carré geweest en we vonden het prachtig. We hadden vanaf het balcon perfect zicht op het podium, alleen de stoelen zaten niet zo comfortabel.

Last week in Amsterdam, the concert of Joe Bonamassa was absolutely fabulous. We hadn't been in theater Carré before and we loved it. We had a perfect view from the balcony on the stage, only the seats were not very comfy.

We hadden een hotelkamer geboekt en het plan was om de volgende dag gezellig in Amsterdam door te brengen. Na een lekker ontbijtje liepen we al bijtijds langs de Amsterdamse grachten. Als wij in een stad rondlopen, kijken we meestal omhoog naar de gebouwen en gevels. Ook hier, wat is onze hoofdstad toch mooi!

We had booked a hotel room and planned to spend the next day in Amsterdam. After a nice breakfast we walked along the Amsterdam canals. When we walk around in a city, we usually look up to the buildings and facades. We think our capital city is very beautiful.

Tja, toen scheen de zon nog lekker, maar die verdween al snel, het begon te regenen en we werden doornat en koud. Kortom, om 3 uur waren we alweer thuis. Jammer, het weekend ervoor en erna was het prachtig weer en wij treffen die kou en regen. Maar goed, het is ons prima bevallen om zo met z'n tweetjes op pad te gaan en hebben ons voorgenomen dit zeker vaker te gaan doen.

Well, then the sun was still shining nice. but it disappeared quickly, it started raining and soon we were soaked and cold. In short, at 3 o'clock we were back home. Too bad, the weekend before and after it was beautiful weather and we had the cold and the rain. Anyway, we really liked our short weekend together so we definitely will do this more often.

Enne, heb ik de rest van de week nog wat gedaan? Nou, naast mijn werk heb ik het eerste blok van Camelot, blok van de maand quilt van Quilt it and Dotty, gemaakt. Kijk eens wat een beauty! En er volgen nog 15 van deze blokken met cirkels.

Nazomerdiner - Late Summer Dinner

Als ik nu naar buiten kijk, kun je toch haast niet geloven dat het een paar dagen geleden nog zulk prachtig, lekker warm weer was! Ik vond het zalig.

When you look outside, you can hardly believe that a few days ago the weather was so beautiful and warm. I enjoyed it very much.

Ik ben een tijd bezig geweest met het breien van een sjaal. Gewoon een aardig steekje opgezet en huppetee, breien maar! Het was best wel leuk geworden, al zeg ik het zelf. Aan het eind van de laatste zomerse dagen kon het toch wat killig worden en dan, hoppa, effe het sjaaltje om!
Maar helaas, net als de zomerse dagen, heeft ook het sjaaltje het begeven.... er viel zomaar een gat in. Nou, dat was best een teleurstelling.

I spent some time knitting a scarf. I just choose a nice and simple stitch and hoppa, knitting! It had become a nice little scarf, though I say so myself. At the end of the last summer days it could be a bit chilly and then I wrapped the scarf around my shoulders.
Unfortunately, just like the summer days are gone, the scarf is gone too....because just suddenly there was a hole in it. That was quite a disappointment.

Zaterdagavond hadden we weer eens een supergezellig "Running Dinner" met vrienden. We zijn met 3 stellen die ieder een gang bereiden. De vorige keer hadden wij het voorgerecht bereid, deze keer waren we aan de beurt voor het hoofdgerecht. Aan het eind van de middag hadden we de tafel al mooi gedekt en al wat voorbereidend werk gedaan. We hebben ons eerst nog even lekker opgefrist en vervolgens gingen we naar R en R die deze keer het voorgerecht bereidden. Het was nog zulk lekker weer dat we lekker in de tuin konden eten.

Saturday night we had a very nice "Running Dinner" with good friends. We are 3 couples who each prepare a course. The last time we had prepared the appetizer, this time it was our turn for the main course. At the end of the afternoon we had the table already well covered and all preparatory work was done. After we had refreshed ourselves we went to R and R who prepared the starter this time. The weather was still very nice so we could eat in the garden.

Toen waren wij aan de beurt. Snel naar huis om de risotto met garnalen klaar te maken en de tonijnbiefstukjes te grillen. De mediterrane groenten hadden we al klaar gemaakt.

Then it was our turn. Run home to prepare the risotto with shrimps and to grill the tuna steaks. The Mediterranean salad was already made.

Nadat we dat hadden opgepeuzeld en weggespoeld met lekkere wijn, gingen we op weg naar T en Y voor het dessert.

After we enjoyed that and had it washed down with fine wine, we went to T and Y for the dessert.

Het is iedere keer weer zo leuk en lekker. We maken er echt werk van om lekker te koken, goede wijn te kiezen en de tafels mooi te dekken. Het is altijd een verrassing wat we eten en wonder boven wonder past het altijd goed bij elkaar. Het was een geweldige afsluiting van de zomer.

Every time Running Dinner is so much fun and delicious. We really make a lot of work of the cooking, choosing the right wine and the table decoration. It's always a surprise what we eat and miraculously it always fits together. It was a great end of summer.

Aunt Millie

Nou ja zeg, die week ging snel voorbij! Ik zou nog steeds het blok van de Aunt Millie's Garden Quilt laten zien. Komt-ie!

Well, well, this week passed quickly! I promised to show you the block of my Aunt Millie's Garden Quilt. Here it is!

Het was weer een drukke week waarin niet veel tijd over bleef om quiltwerkjes te doen. Wel heb ik samen met mijn hubby de roosjesquilt voor Iris gedubbeld. Bij zo'n grote quilt, formaat beddesprei, vind ik dat zo'n vervelende klus. Om te voorkomen dat straks alles op de grond ligt, moet ik nu eerst mijn naaitafel helemaal leegruimen voordat ik 'm met de naaimachine kan doorquilten.

It was a busy week in which was not much time left for quilting. My hubby helped me layering and basting the rose-quilt for Iris. With such a large quilt, bedspread size, I find that such a tedious job. To prevent things dropping off the table, I should get my sewing table empty before I can start quilting it on my sewing machine.

Lekprikkers september 2011

Afgelopen woensdagochtend was weer de eerste Lekrprikkersbijeenkomst na de vakantie. Er moest heel wat bijgepraat worden, het was me toch een kippenhok! Na het welkomstwoord en koffie en gebak werd snel gestart met de workshop "kaleidoskoop". Ik moet eerlijk bekennen dat ik niet heb meegedaan, ik heb nog zoveel half afgewerkt werk liggen... Het is wel een heel leuk blok om mee te werken. In oktober gaan we er weer verder mee.

Last Wednesday was the first Lekprikkers meeting after the holidays. There was a lot of chattering, it sounded like a chicken run! After some words of welcome and coffee and cake, we quickly started with the workhop "kaleidoscope". I must admit that I have not participated, I do have so many unfinished work... It is a very nice block to work on. The workshop will be continued in October.

Bloemen (alweer) - Flowers (again)

En zo zijn er ineens alweer een paar weken verstreken. De week nadat wij terug kwamen van vakantie, kwam onze oudste dochter Iris weer thuis van haar werk-vakantie op Mallorca. Door verschillende omstandigheden was het een emotioneel weerzien. We waren zoooo blij dat ze weer gezond en wel thuis was.
Onze jongste, Esther, blijft voorlopig nog in Australië, waar ze het erg naar haar zin heeft (zie haar eigen weblog). Zij komt over zo'n 8 maanden pas weer thuis, maar gelukkig weten we dat ze in goede handen is bij haar host-family. Ik heb inmiddels een facebook-account en ook skype, dus, ook al zit ze aan het andere eind van de wereld, we kletsen nog heel wat af!

And suddenly a few weeks have passed by. The week after we returned from vacation, our eldest daughter Iris came back home from a working holiday in Majorca. Due to various circumstances it was an emotional reunion. We were soooo glad that she was home safe and sound. Our youngest, Esther, is still staying in Australia and she is really enjoying herself there (see her blog). She comes back home in about 8 months. Fortunately we know that she is in very good hands with her host family. I have opened a facebook account and I also skype, so, even though she is at the other end of the world, we still talk a lot!

Eind augustus waren Open Tuin-dagen van de Betuwse Tuinenroute. Wij zijn de tuin van Janske, bij wie altijd de bijeenkomsten van de Lekprikkers worden gehouden, gaan bekijken. De bloemenpracht was zo inspirerend dat ik die middag gelijk ben begonnen aan de laatste 2 blokken van de Aunt Millie's Garden Quilt.

Late August the Open Garden Days in our region 'De Betuwe' were held. We went to see the garden of Janske (where the gatherings of the Lekprikkers are held). The flowers were so inspiring that I started that afternoon working on the last two blocks of my Aunt Millie's Garden Quilt.

Hoewel ik niet snel kan werken, hoop ik zo dat ik deze wel vlot af heb, want ik wil zo graag verder met of beginnen aan andere quilts! Als deze 2 blokken klaar zijn, moeten echter ook de randen nog gemaakt worden....

Although I can not work very fast, I hope to be able to make these quickly because I would love to continue or start with other quilts! When these blocks are completed, the borders have to be made (also appliqué).......

Kroatië - Croatia

We zijn weer terug van een heerlijke vakantie in Kroatië. De eerste week was het daar niet zulk lekker weer, maar dat werd gelukkig steeds beter. De laatste week was het zelfs erg warm. Als je dan weer terug komt in Nederland waar het niet zulk best weer is, is het wel weer even wennen. We zijn nu allebei snipverkouden.

We have had a wonderful holiday in Croatia. The first week the weather was not so great, but fortunately it was getting better later on. The last week it was actually very warm. When we got back in the Netherlands the weather was bad. And now we both caught a cold.

Zadar

Sinds 2005 heeft de stad Zadar er een toeristische attractie bij nl.een zee-orgel, een ontwerp van kunstenaar/architect Nikola Basic. Het was hier erg druk, hopelijk komt het geluid toch een beetje over.
Kun je je voorstellen dat als het hier stormt, het klachten regent van omwonenden die er stapelgek van worden....

Since 2005, the city of Zadar, has a new tourist attraction, a sea organ, designed by artist/architect Nikola Basic . When I filmed, it was very crowded, I hope you can hear the sound.
Can you imagine that, when it storms here, it is raining complaints from the local residents who are getting crazy...

Eiland Pag: kantwerk stad Pag

In Pag zitten vrouwen in de deuropening of op straat het meest prachtige kantwerk te knopen. Hoe ze het precies maken, is me niet duidelijk geworden. De dames zijn er vooral op gebrand om hun werk te verkopen en beginnen, zodra je belangstelling toont, gelijk met prijslijstjes te wapperen.
Een middelgroot kleedje, ter grootte van een schoteltje, moest zo'n € 70,00 kosten! Tja, jammer maar helaas, hoe mooi en knap dit handwerk ook is, dat vond ik toch wel heel erg duur.

In Pag, women sit in the doorway or on the street, making the most beautiful lace. The ladies are very eager to sell their work and begin, once you have an interest, to wave with price lists. So how they make it exactly, it did not became clear to me.
A medium-sized rug, the size of a saucer, costed € 70.00! Well, very unfortunate, how pretty and well this craft is, that I found way to expensive.

Lekprikkers juni

De Lekpriksters hadden nog het verslag van de laatste bijeenkomst tegoed. Ik ben weer even 'in de foto's gedoken' om m'n geheugen weer op te frissen, want nu is het toch wel een heeele tijd geleden. Verschillende Lekpriksters hebben de stoute schoenen aangetrokken en een reactie geplaatst bij mijn vorige Lekprikkersbericht. Hartstikke leuk, bedankt! Anderen hebben geprobeerd een reactie te plaatsen, maar dat is (nog) niet gelukt. Jammer, gewoon nog een keer proberen!

In June we had the last meeting of the Lekprikkers. It was quite a while ago so I had to refresh my memory by looking through some pictures. Some of the Lekpriksters succeeded in placing a comment on the last blogpost about the Lekprikkers. Very nice, thanks! Some of them tried to place a comment but they didn't succeed. Pity, please try again next time!

Ineke was aanwezig om ons een workshop "Japanse Puzzelquilt" te geven. Het was allemaal snel duidelijk en er werd enthousiast getekend, geplakt (cijfertjes), gesneden en verschoven. Ik ben benieuwd wie zijn quilt of quilttop de volgende keer al af heeft!

Ineke was present to give a workshop "Japanese Puzzlequilt". Her explanation was clear and soon everyone was drawing, cutting and moving the parts. I wonder who has a finished a quilt or a quilt top at the next meeting!

Ook had Ineke 2 exemplaren van de Eureka quilt meegenomen. In deze quilt zitten veel verschillende Log Cabin-blocks verwerkt. Volgend seizoen gaan we (de meesten doen mee) deze quilt maken.

Ineke also brought two examples of the Eureka quilt. This quilt consists of many different Log Cabin blocks. Next season, we (most of us Lekprikkers) are going to make this quilt.

Show and Tell

De dochter van Lekpriksters Liane gaat vrijwilligerswerk doen in een hospitaal in Nepal. Helaas kon ik de link van het project niet meer terug vinden. Liane zelf had verschillende quilts gemaakt en anderen schonken kleine quilts. Deze worden gebruikt om diverse ruimtes waaronder een bibliotheek gezellig te maken.

The daughter of Liane is a volunteer in a hospital in Nepal. Unfortunately I could not find the link to this project anymore. Liane herself had made several quilts and others donated small quilts. These are going to be used to dress up various hospital departments, including the library.

Het was weer een inspirerende ochtend!

Net voordat Esther naar Australië vertrok, heb ik nog een klein tasje voor haar Australische kleine zusje genaaid. Ik heb al gehoord dat ze er blij mee was.

Just before Esther left to Australia, I made a little purse as a gift for her little Australian sister. I've heard that she was very happy with it.

Life and quilting - quilting?

De laatste tijd ben ik meer met mijn gezin, oftewel life bezig geweest en dan met quilten. De Lekpriksters hebben nog een verslag van de laatste bijeenkomst tegoed. Die was al weer een tijdje geleden, maar ik zal het verslag echt binnenkort nog schrijven.

Recently I have been busy with my family, in other words more life than quilting! The Lekpriksters are still waiting for a report of the last gathering. That was a while ago, but I will really write the report soon.

Woensdag is onze oudste dochter vertrokken naar haar werkadres op Mallorca. Ze had nog doorgegeven dat de vlucht goed gegaan was, maar verder hoorden we niets meer. Omdat ze helemaal alleen op pad is, kregen we het "Spaans benauwd". Bleek dat haar sms-bericht 8 uur onderweg was geweest! Alles was goed gegaan en het is daar allemaal superleuk. Een hele opluchting.

Wednesday is our oldest daughter went to her work address in Mallorca. She sent us a sms that the flight went well, but then we heard nothing more. Because she travels there all alone, we became really a bit anxious. Apparently her sms text had been about 8 hours on its way before it reached us! Everything went well and it is great fun over there. A big relief.

En donderdagmiddag is de jongste vertrokken naar Australië. Bij het afscheid heb ik me goed kunnen houden, maar in de auto heb ik toch wel eventjes een paar traantjes gelaten hoor. Door het slechte weer vertrok haar vlucht met meer dan een uur vertraging. In Londen ontmoette ze nog meer reisgenoten uit andere landen, waaronder ook begeleiders van de STS-organisatie. De reis duurt heel lang. Ze maakt nog een tussenstop in Bangkok voordat ze doorvliegt naar Sydney. Vanuit Sydney volgt dan nog een binnenlandse vlucht naar Maroochydore, ten noorden van Brisbane aan de Sunshine Coast. Daar komt ze dan zaterdagochtend pas aan!
Ze heeft de afgelopen weken al heel veel contact gehad met haar host-mum en het kan bijna niet anders dan dat ze het daar heel erg naar haar zin gaat krijgen. Haar Australische Highschool avonturen gaat ze ook op een weblog bijhouden Esther in Australia!

And Thursday, our youngest left for Australia. When saying goodbye to her, I managed to control my emotions, but while sitting in the car I burst into tears. In London she met more fellow travelers from other countries, including supervisors of the STS-organization. The journey takes a long time. She makes a stop in Bangkok before they fly to Sydney. And from Sydney follows then a domestic flight to Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast. She will arrive there not until Saturday morning!
The past weeks she has had a lot of contact with her host mum and it is almost inevitable that she is going to have a really great time Down Under. She is going to tell us about her adventures on her own weblog Esther in Australia!

Om mijn dochters een beetje te kunnen bijhouden heb ik ook maar een Facebook account aangemaakt. Ik word nog eens een echte computerexpert. Foto's bewerken, bloggen, chatten via Facebook en binnenkort ook nog Skypen.

Happy times and mixed feelings

Iedereen bedankt voor alle felicitaties naar aanleiding van het slagen van onze meiden! Nadat we de goede uitslag kregen, zijn we gezellig met z´n viertjes uit eten geweest. De avond erna hebben we een examenfeestje gegeven voor alle familie en wat goede vrienden. De week erna werd een examenfeest gegeven voor de jeugd. We hadden met z´n allen lekkere salades, gevulde broden en andere lekkernijen klaar gemaakt en ook werd de BBQ aangestoken. Over de drank vertel ik maar niets... Ook de diploma-uitreikingingen op school waren heel erg leuk. We kunnen terugkijken op een drukke maar zeer geslaagde tijd!!

Thanks for all the congratulations on the graduation of our girls. After hearing the good news, we treated ourselves to a diner in a good restaurant. The next evening we had a party for family and good friends. The following week there was a party given for the youth. Together we prepared some tasty salads, stuffed bread and other delicacies. The BBQ fire was lit also. The graduation ceremonies organized at the school were very nice. We can look back on a very busy but very nice time!

Intussen werd er ook hard gewerkt aan de badkamer. Toen we echter de douche in gebruik namen, begon het water beneden in de woonkamer door het plafond te druppelen. Dat was dus niet zo geslaagd. Grrr, toen moest er toch weer één en ander open gebroken worden. Daar zaten we best over in want het was zo mooi geworden en dat moest weer stuk gemaakt worden... Maar gelukkig bleek dat we goede vaklui hadden ingehuurd. Alles is gerepareerd en er is niets meer van te zien. Een pak van ons hart!! Nu ontbreekt alleen de deur van de douchecabine nog. Die kon pas later besteld worden en is nog niet geleverd.

Meanwhile, a good job was done on the renovation of the bathroom. But when we started using the shower, the water began to drip down through the ceiling of our living room. That was not so pleasant. Grrr, it had to be broken open again. We were quite worried about that. It was so beautifully made and it had to be broken up... But it turned out that we hired good professionals. Everything has been repaired and there is nothing to see. A great relief!! Now we are waiting for the delivery of the shower door which was ordered later on.

En nu worden de koffers gepakt. De ene koffer gaat 5 weken naar Mallorca, de andere 10 maanden naar Eudlo in Australië. Hartstikke leuk, maar wat zullen we onze meisjes erg missen!

And now the suitcases are being packed. One suitcase goes for 5 weeks to Majorca, the other one for 10 months to Eudlo, Australia. Great fun, we will really miss our sweet girls!

Geslaagd - Graduated

We zijn zo blij en trots, onze meiden zijn allebei met goede cijfers geslaagd voor hun eindexamen!

Het was best nog wel spannend,...wat zullen wij vannacht lekker slapen.

We are so happy and proud, both our girls passed their final exams with good marks! It was quite an exciting period.... what shall we sleep tonight!

Free Willy

Free Willy spelen in bad

Vroeger gingen de kinderen vaak in bad. Ik hoorde regelmatig: "dan ga jij onder water, want jij bent Free Willy en dan kom ik jou redden". Maar ja, dat was vroeger. De laatste jaren werd het bad bijna niet meer gebruikt en de badkamer werd ook ouder en een beetje sjofel. Afgelopen week heeft Hubby de badkamer gesloopt en vanaf dinsdag komt een badkamerbedrijf een nieuwe badkamer installeren. De komende tijd gaan we dus hier en daar douchen en in de tussentijd zullen we ons met een washandje moeten behelpen in de keuken.....

When the children were little, they often went to bath together. I heard frequently: "then you go under water, because you are Free Willy and I'll save you". But that was then. In recent years the bath was rarely used and the bathroom got older and a bit shabby. Last week Hubby has demolished the bathroom and next week the new bathroom will be installed by builders. Until then we have to take showers here and there and in the meantime we have to wash ourselves with washcloths in the kitchen....

Dit is een vilten huisje dat ik een tijdje terug heb afgemaakt. Wat ga je daar nu mee doen, werd mij al gevraagd. Nou, dat weet ik eigenlijk ook niet. Het was heel leuk om te maken en voorlopig heb ik er mijn (kleine) voorraad vilt in gedaan.

This is a house made of felt which I made a little while ago. What are you going do with it, I was already asked. Well, I really don't know. But it was fun to make and now I've got my (small) stock of felt in it.

En kijk eens, ik ben weer aan het haken geslagen. Ik heb een Engelstalig patroon gevonden van een bloem. De bloemen zijn niet allemaal gelijk want ik snapte de beschrijving toch niet helemaal. Maar ik denk dat je dat toch niet ziet, als ze aan elkaar gezet zijn, toch?

And look, I started crocheting ( or should I say hooking??) again. I have found an English pattern of a flower. The flowers are not all the same because I did not quite understand the description. But I think you do not see that when they are all put together, right?

Pfft...wat gaat de tijd toch snel. Ik zit sinds een week weer eens met miijn lap-top schoot en heb heel wat in te halen. Ik volg veel (te veel?) weblogs via de Google Reader, er zijn meer dan 300 nieuwe blogberichten om door te nemen! Yeah...

Pfft ... how time flies. It has been a week or so, since I used my lap top and I have a lot to catch up. I follow a lot (too much?) via Google Reader, there are over 300 new blog posts to read! Yeah...

Maar goed, hier dan eindelijk wat foto's van het uitstapje van de Lekprikkers. We vertrokken rond 8 uur vanuit Culemborg naar De Rijp, waar we hartelijk ontvangen werden in hobbywinkel Sylka Mode. Een leuke winkel waar een groot aantal mooie stoffen afgeprijsd was, dus er werd door een paar Lekpriksters flink ingeslagen. Ik kocht hier geen lapjes, wel een patroon. Tja, plannen genoeg....

Anyway, finally some pictures of the outing of the Lekprikkers. We left around 8 o'clock from Culemborg to De Rijp, where we were warmly received in hobby shop Sylka Mode. A nice shop where a lot fabrics were marked down, so quite a few Lekprikkers bought a lot. I did not buy fabrics but a pattern. Yes, plenty of ideas....

De Rijp is overigens een erg mooi plaatsje. We zagen een prachtige bloemenwinkel en er is ook een Bed and Breakfast, dus wie nog plannen heeft voor een weekendje weg....

De Rijp is also a very nice place. We saw a beautiful flower shop and there is also a bed and breakfast, so who still has plans for a weekend ....

We vervolgden onze reis naar Haarlem waar we Patchwork en Quiltshop De Sampler bezochten. Daar was een workshop voor ons verzorgd door Ingeborg. Ieder kreeg een compleet pakketje (inclusief schaartje) met de benodigdheden om een naaimapje te maken. Het was een leuke en gezellige workshop.

We continued our journey to Haarlem where we visited Patchwork and Quilt Shop The Sampler. They organized a workshop for us. Everyone got a complete package (including scissors) with all necessities to make a little sewing folder. It was a nice and entertaining workshop.

Ik vond de quilt met kikkertjes zo leuk dus ik kocht wat groene stojes en kreeg het patroon erbij....

I liked the quilt with the frogs so I bought a couple of green fabrics and received the pattern as a gift......

En daarna zijn we nog even Haarlem ingelopen. Leuke stad om te winkelen, hier wil ik ook nog wel eens naar terug!

Then we went to the city of Haarlem. A nice city to go shopping, I want to go back soon!

We zijn nog gezellig met de hele groep uit eten geweest waarna we filevrij weer naar Culemborg terug konden rijden. Het was weer een Super-dag.

We had a nice dinner in a restaurant before we returned to Culemborg. It was a Super day.

Lekprikkers en Quiltbengels

Vorige week hebben we ons jaarlijkse uitje met de Lekprikkers gehad. Verschillende Lekpriksters waren niet bij de laatste bijeenkomst geweest en hadden op een verslag op mijn blog gerekend.. Nou dames, hier volgt alsnog een kort verslag, gevolgd door een paar foto's van de bijeenkomst met de Quiltbengels.

Last week we have had our annual outing with the Lekprikkers. Some of the members could not join the last meeting and they have missed a report on my blog. Well ladies, here is is short report, followed by a report/pictures of the meeting of the Quiltbengels.

De Lekprikkers gaan voor de St. Regenboogboom weer 2 Droomdekens maken met stoffen die we hiervoor van een (inmiddels gesloten) stoffenzaak hebben gekregen. Ieder gaat 2 blokken maken.
Een appliquatieblok voor de ene deken en een log cabinblok met een boerderij-afbeelding in het midden voor de andere deken.

The Lekprikkers are going to make 2 dream blankets for St. Regenboogboom. Each of us will make 2 blocks. We are using the fabrics which are given to to us by a now closed store. An appliqué block for one blanket and a log cabin block with a farm-image in the middle for the other blanket.

We gingen gelijk aan de slag met het verdelen en snijden van de stoffen.

We went straight to work on dividing and cutting the materials.

Bij de show en tell werd niet veel geshowd, maar wat geshowd werd, was wel heel mooi.
Gijske maakt een Japanse quilt.

The show and tell: there was not showed much, but what was to see was very beautiful. Gijske makes a Japanese quilt.

Alie heeft een verzameling Den Haan en Wagemakers-stoffen. Ze gaat door met blokken maken tot alles op is. Prachtig!

Alie has a collection of Den Haan and Wagemakers fabrics. She continues to make blocks until there is nothing left.. Beautiful!

Bij de Quiltbengels waren we maar met z'n drietjes. Trea was de bies om deze quilt aan het naaien.

At the Quiltbengels there were only three of us. Trea was sewing the binding to this quilt.

Annelies gaat deze quilt maken, hiervoor is ze lapjes aan het verzamelen... Inmiddels heeft ze al een paar blokken af.

Annelies collects FQ for this quilt.... there are a few blocks ready now.

Nu ik dit blogbericht schrijf, zijn onze dochters hun laatste examens aan het maken. En dan moeten we tot 16 juni wachten op de uitslag. We denken dat ze allebei goed door de examens zijn gekomen, maar je weet natuurlijk nooit. Het blijft toch spannend.

While I am writing this blog post, our daughters are making their final exams. And then we have to wait until June 16 for the results. We think they both did a good job, but you never know. It remains exciting.

Eerdaags volgt een bericht met foto's van het Lekprikkers-uitje. Dan hoop ik ook weer wat eigen werk te kunnen laten zien. Fijn weekend!

One of these days I will make a blog post of the Lekprikkers outing. Then I hope to show some of my own work. I can't find my Dutch / English dictionary, hopefully the translation into English went well! Enjoy the weekend!

OEQC 2011 - Sorry, ik loop achter.... Sorry I am late in publishing my stories.

Best of Show, detail

Vorige week was ik met Anita, Annelies en Trea in Veldhoven bij de OEQC. Het was die dag prachtig weer, maar daar hebben wij weinig van gemerkt binnen. Alhoewel, misschien was het hierdoor wel zo rustig. We konden alles goed bekijken en ook bij de meeste winkels konden rustig shoppen en met de eigenaren 'beppen'. Hierdoor kwamen we aan het eind van de dag toch weer tijd te kort. Toen we weer op weg naar huis waren, bedacht ik me, ooh, ik zou nog terug gaan naar die en die stand om dat en dat te kopen....

Last week I visited with my friends Anita, Annelies and Trea the OEQC in Veldhoven. It was not so crowded. We could take a good look at the quilts and most booths were not to crowded, so we could have a chat with the shop owners. But at the end of the day we were still running out of time. When we were on our way home, I thought, ooh, I would have gone back to different booths to buy this and that...

Het was weer een feest om al die prachtige quilts van dichtbij te kunnen bekijken. Er waren o.a. exposities van Baltimore Album Quilts, quilts van Jaqueline de Jonge, en quilts van de mysterybom van de Quilterij uit Den Bosch.

It was a feast to admire all the beautiful quilts up close. There were exhibitions of Baltimore Album Quilts, quilts from Jacqueline de Jonge, and quilts from the mysterybom of Quilterij from Den Bosch.

Vorig jaar hebben we schitterende quilts uit Hongarije bewonderd. En kijk eens wat er dit jaar te koop was.

Last year we admired the beautiful quilts from Hungary. Look what was for sale this year.

Verder kocht ik nog tashengsels, houten knoopjes en een paar FQ. De FQ kocht ik bij een nieuwe quiltwinkel De Quilthoeve . Deze nieuwe winkel opent 12 mei, maar ze waren dus al met hun stand op de beurs. Slimme zet! De stand zag er prachtig uit met vooral stoffen van French General. We kregen ook nog een leuk blikje met spelden als presentje.

I also bought bag handles, wooden buttons and a pair of FQ. I bought the FQ in a new quiltshop 'de Quilthoeve'. This new store opens May 12, but they were already in their booth at the fair. Smart move! The booth looked great, with especially fabrics of French General. We received a nice tin with pins as a gift.

Bij Lynette Anderson heb ik 2 patroontjes gekocht. Deze mocht ik kopen als moederdagpresentje van mijn liefste Hubby.

At Lynette Andersons' booth I bought 2 patterns. These were my presents from dearest Hubby for Mothers day.

Op moederdag kreeg ik ook nog een mooi boek van mijn dochters. Nu is het wel weer eens tijd om wat te gaan naaien, genoeg inspiratie!

And my daughters gave me this beautiful book on Mothers day. And now it is about time to do some sewing, enough inspiration!
